Production Supervisor (Nights and Weekends)

Role Description:

Responsible for providing leadership and direction in the fermentation area, particularly the support functions of the department. Manage, guide and coordinate resources for the continuity of operations, with the expectation to achieve or exceed key performance metrics. Will plan / execute site directives and define the manufacturing plan to meet production, quality, safety and financial demands of the operation. Lead department personnel scheduling and development, building and supporting a culture of high performance. All other duties as assigned.

Shift: Sun-Thurs or Tues-Sat

Job Reports to: Operation Manager

Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise Daily Operations: Oversee daily production, ensuring smooth workflow and adherence to safety standards. Efficiently monitor different types of manufacturing equipment such as blenders, fermenters, large scale dryers, sieving, etc.
  2. Managing Staff: Organize workflow, assign responsibilities, coordinate schedules, train new employees, and maintain equipment.
  3. Quality Control: Ensuring product quality meets standards.
  4. Safety Enforcement: Implement safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment. Ensure that the production facility meets safety standards, equipment is used safely, and maintenance is scheduled regularly.
  5. Monitor Performance: Check production output against specifications, provide constructive feedback and coaching.
  6. Troubleshoot: Identify issues and suggest improvements, and work with specialist teams to ensure compliance and keep production downtime to a minimum.
  7. Report: Submit reports on performance and progress.
  8. Relationships: Maintains working relationship with union members and representatives by following the terms of the collective bargaining agreement. Resolve personnel problems by analyzing data, investigating issues, identifying solutions and recommending action.

 

Skills, Qualifications and Competencies

Prior supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment; Strong organizational and time management skills; Process improvement knowledge; Safety-focus; Team management and coaching; Decisions making; Production planning; Controls and instrumentation understanding; Strategic planning with an emphasis on attention to detail; Budgeting and financial planning; Good communicator – able to work and collaborate with many disciplines, with capabilities to write and present.

Attention to detail; Computer proficiency skills (MS Suite, etc.) required and ERP System skills preferred.

Demonstrated safety record and comprehensive OSHA knowledge.

Work Environment:

Work is both indoors and outdoors (not temperature-controlled), and may be exposed to loud noises, hazardous equipment, and contaminants. Must wear safety gear and protective clothing.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma required.

B.A./B.S. in related discipline, STEM preferred.

Relevant work experience may be substituted.

3-5 years’ experience in a manufacturing plant, fermentation preferred.
