Certis USA’s Jeremy Briscoe Is Named 2008 CAPCA Member of the Year
Briscoe Shares the Award with Sean Morelos of BASF Corporation
Certis USA Area Sales Manager Jeremy Briscoe and Sean Morelos, a sales representative with BASF Corporation, have been named 2008 CAPCA Member of the Year by the California Association of Pest Control Advisers (CAPCA). Briscoe and Morelos were honored for the “exemplary leadership and volunteerism” they exhibited by conceiving of and creating the “Pathway to PCA” program that educates college students about career opportunities as pest control advisers (PCA).
Briscoe and Morelos are co-chairs of the membership committee for CAPCA, an association that represents more than 75 percent of the nearly 4,200 California EPA-licensed PCAs. Through their committee work, Briscoe and Morelos identified an opportunity to potentially increase the number of future PCAs. They discovered the number of students pursuing careers as PCAs was shrinking. Further, some colleges were not offering guidance about PCA careers, so often students weren’t taking the appropriate coursework that would allow them to qualify for the licensing exam. Briscoe and Morelos created a solution: the “Pathway to PCA” program that creates awareness, educates and recruits new PCAs into the profession. Multiple universities, allied associations, industry and the California Department of Pesticide Regulations worked with Briscoe and Morelos to make a viable program that has successfully concluded its first pilot year.
