COLUMBIA, MD — January 10, 2012 — Certis USA announces its introduction of a high potency codling moth virus that will be commercially available to apple and pear growers in select states this season. CYD-X® HP bioinsecticide contains the most potent occlusion bodies (OBs) selected from a naturally occurring virus (Cydia pomonella granulovirus or CpGV) that infects and kills larvae of the codling moth.
Larvae only need to ingest one or two OBs to cause a lethal infection. A single ounce of CYD-X HP contains nearly one trillion OBs. As a result, CYD-X HP can be used at ultra low rates — as low as 0.5 ounces per acre — making it a highly cost-effective control product. CYD-X HP provides growers with an economical alternative for managing resistance and residues. Because it is tank-mix compatible with most other insecticides, fungicides and fertilizers, no additional orchard applications are required. CYD-X HP will be packaged in an easy-to-use 6-ounce bottle with a window-strip calibrator for measuring the correct dose.
CYD-X HP is highly specific to codling moth, so it is noninfectious to beneficial insects, fish, wildlife, livestock or humans and can be successfully used with mating disruption programs. It is approved by the National Organics Program (NOP) for use in organic production and is OMRI listed. It has a 4-hour reentry period and zero-day pre-harvest interval.
Tim Damico, Certis USA Executive VP NAFTA, said, “CYD-X HP is the most potent codling moth virus product ever introduced. It reflects Certis’ commitment to bring new technologies to the market that translate into high value for growers. Products, such as CYD-X HP, meet the demands of today’s fruit growers who are seeking sustainable alternatives, harvest management solutions, and low residues for market flexibility and export accessibility.”
In previous news, Certis USA announced it has entered into a global license agreement with Montana State University-Bozeman and Montana BioAgriculture Inc. of Missoula, MT to develop and commercialize new fungicides based on Bacillus mycoides isolate BmJ. Once again, Damico reiterates the commitment of Certis USA to bring value-added sustainable solutions to the global market. “Bacillus mycoides isolate BmJ is another one of the potential biological products that can serve the needs of tomorrow’s producers of high quality fruits and vegetables while leaving a small pesticide footprint,” he said.
